Virginia Criminal Law

Criminal law is the prosecution by the government of an individual for an act that is a crime. The prosecutor is the person that brings the suit on behalf of the State of Virginia. Persons convicted of a crime can be either put in jail or fined. A "crime" is any act or omission (of an act) in violation of a public law forbidding it. There are State of Virginia laws as well as federal crimes which include both felonies and misdemeanors. Felonies are crimes punishable by imprisonment of a year or more, while misdemeanors are crimes punishable by less than a year. Charles Anderson of Grenadier, Anderson, Starace & Duffett P.C. has over twenty years of experience in criminal law and can assist in providing comprehensive representation in your Virginia criminal law needs.
